Mainstream Schools - General Information

Supporting Information/Documents

You may be asked to provide these if not already seen in a previous application.

Originals are not required — clear photos or scans are sufficient.

  1. Proof of Age → Child's birth certificate or passport
  2. Proof of Faith (Roman Catholic schools only) → Child's baptism certificate
  3. Proof of Address (first application or if you've moved) →
  • Recent utility bill (within 3 months)
  • Qualified acceptance letter
  • Completed missives (property purchase)
  • Signed and dated rental agreement

Important Note - the "Additional Information" box at the end of the application should be used to include any details a parent/carer thinks are important. Don't wait until after a refusal to provide them.

Moving within and into West Lothian

  • Always use your current address on the application.
  • Provide a timeline of your move and proof of new address.
  • If the distance to the chosen school means the child cannot reasonably attend from the current address, a place cannot be reserved until the child is able to attend.
  • School places cannot be reserved for longer than two weeks (excluding holidays).

Multiple Applications

Multiple Applications Rule

  • If more than one application is submitted for the same child,
  • Only the most recent application will be considered.
  • Earlier applications choices are automatically disregarded once a new application is received.

Change of Circumstance after application submitted

  • If circumstances change after submission (e.g., new address), parents must as soon as possible:
    • Inform the Pupil Placement Team.
    • Inform the school - if the application was made directly to the school.
  • Include supporting documents (e.g., rental agreement, utility bill).

Withdrawal of Place

  • Once a child has been offered a place, the offer is secure.
  • It will only be withdrawn if:
  • False information was provided, or
  • Information was deliberately withheld.
